OCASIO-CORTEZ'S MADNESS

Cross Examination w/ Michael Klatt

4/8/19

Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been constantly called out by the right for ludicrous comments made since she assumed the office of Representative of New York’s 14th Congressional District. However, several of the self-proclaimed “socialist”’s comments have even caught criticism from prominent figures on the left such as Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, who refuted the practicality of Ocasio-Cortez’s “Green New Deal.” These outlandish comments haven’t only come since she took office on January 3rd of this year; in late 2018, the Representative-elect claimed that there were three branches of Congress (House, Senate, and Presidency).

With her outlandish “Green New Deal”, estimated to cost the taxpayers of the United States about $93 trillion, it’s no wonder the vote to further the deal miserably failed in the Senate by a vote of 57-0, with Independent Angus King of Maine (who caucuses with Democrats) and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, and Doug Jones of Alabama being the only Democrats to vote against it. The other Democrats all voted ‘“present” rather than yea or nay.

The freshman representative, who clearly has no clue about anything when it comes to either basic economics or any financial literacy, sits on the House Financial Services Committee. What’s even crazier is that she has a degree in Economics from Boston University. Somebody should clearly have a reevaluation of their teaching. Many have gone as far enough to even call for her degree to be revoked, but the university had failed to act or even respond.

In a July 2018 interview on PBS’ Fire Line, the then-candidate had been discussing unemployment rates plummeting under President Trump. Host Margaret Hoover had asked what she thought about unemployment going down, to which she responded: “Well unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs.”  She went on to continue in explaining that “Unemployment is low because people are working 60, 70, 80 hours a week and can barely feed their kids.” The representative, who still has no idea that capitalism has given her everything that she has: including her cell phone, continues to be a champion for socialism. But at what cost? Is she willing to attempt a socialist coup? Most definitely not, but others are; that’s what’s scary.

Most recently, on an Instagram live stream, Ocasio-Cortez compared climate change to the civil rights’ movement of the 1950’s/1960’s. She even went far enough to compare herself to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who would have likely been a modern conservative; he put faith at the center of his philosophy and wanted people’s skin color to be disregarded so they would be seen for their personality rather than physical features.

Bill Gates has even called out the young representative to say that her tax policies are “missing the point.” She has drawn criticism from people far and wide, short and tall, black and white, right and left. Her insane comments will continue to flare up controversy and fanfare for as long as she’s in office. She does not want the best for the poor: she wants the worst for the rich.
